Preserving Nebraska Ecosystems
Prairie Plains Resource Institute's out of Aurora operates two nearby preserves, maintaining and restoring Nebraska ecosystems in the central part of the state.
Gjerloff Prairie's 390 acres offers open prairie, gulleys, steep cliffs, and half a mile of riverfront. It is open to the public for hiking, and the institute hosts monhtly gatherings with food and music in their barnn — currently being renovated into an education center which will also be available for meetings and weddings. The institute completed the purchase of the nearby 650 acre Sherman Ranch in 2016.
